Covering your children

Covering your children

When kids go away for college it’s hard to keep track of what they’re doing. College kids live a full life, and spend little time at home. If they stay at their parent’s house for the duration of their schooling it’s one thing, but if they move out to a dorm room or rent a room or a house somewhere, things start to get a little tricky.

Because they have such a full schedule with studying and taking part in school – and after school – activities, they don’t spend a lot of time at home. This makes them a very suitable target for ill intentioned people – burglars, that is. Also, students often need and will most certainly have a lot of equipment that is very desirable in the criminal underworld, like laptops and other electronic equipment, and also expensive school supplies.

There is, however, things you can do. You can make sure their house is safe by investing in good locks, you can instill a sense of caring for their belongings, and you can adopt the policy that many parents have been adopting of extending their contents insurance to cover for their kids’ belongings. This way, if the worse happens, they will be able to get their money back, and the damage won’t be so high.
